How to Create and Use Discount Codes (Guesty Users)

Learn how to create coupon codes in Guesty and how your guests can apply them during checkout on your CraftedStays direct booking site.

Written by Kin Pagaduan

Overview

If you're using Guesty as your PMS, you can create coupons directly in Guesty and share them with your guests. Coupons allow you to offer guests a percentage or fixed amount off their reservation.

Coupons apply only to the accommodation fare — excluding basic fees, additional fees, and taxes. The discount adjusts automatically to any fare changes. For example, a 10% off coupon on a $100 reservation gives a $10 discount; if the rate updates to $150, the discount automatically becomes $15.

Once a coupon is active in Guesty, guests will see an option to enter a coupon code during the booking process on your CraftedStays direct booking site.

⚠️ Important: Discount codes and payments are managed entirely through Guesty — not through CraftedStays. Your CraftedStays site surfaces the coupon field to guests during checkout, but the coupon creation, validation, discount calculation, and payment processing all happen within your Guesty account.

Step 1: Create a Coupon in Guesty

  1. Sign in to your Guesty account.

  2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Growth mode.

  3. Click Revenue management and select Coupons.

  4. In the top-right corner, click New coupon.

  5. Fill in the coupon settings and click Next:

    • Name — Visible to guests on your website. You can use numbers, letters, and special characters. Note: when using the Booking Engine API, coupons with special characters can't be redeemed — use only numbers and letters in that case.

    • Code — The code guests will use to redeem the coupon.

    • Discount amount — The percentage or fixed amount you're offering as a discount.

  6. Fill in the coupon's availability settings and click Next:

    • When can guests stay using this coupon? — Set a date range guests must check in within to use the coupon. The coupon applies to all nights of the reservation, including nights outside the specified range. You can also exclude specific days or dates — if a guest's stay falls on an excluded day, they can't use the coupon.

    • When is the last date guests can book using this coupon? — The coupon can't be used on or after this date.

    • How many times can this coupon be used? — Set a usage limit (total uses, not per guest). Leave empty for no limit.

    • How long do guests need to stay to use this coupon? — Set a minimum or maximum number of nights required to use the coupon.

  7. Select the listings the coupon applies to and click Create coupon:

    • All listings — All existing and new listings will have this coupon.

    • Select listings — Choose specific listings (use filters to narrow your search).

Once created, the coupon will appear on the coupons dashboard with a status of Active. Guests can book with it as long as it stays active. You can copy the coupon code from the confirmation pop-up to share with guests.

Step 2: How Guests Apply the Code on Your CraftedStays Site

Once your coupon is active in Guesty, guests will see the option to enter it during the booking flow on your CraftedStays direct booking site.

  1. The guest searches for available dates and selects a property.

  2. During the booking flow, an option to enter a coupon code will appear.

  3. The guest enters the code. Guesty validates it and automatically applies the discount if all conditions are met.

  4. The discount appears as a separate line item in the booking summary, applied to the accommodation fare only.

If the coupon value is higher than the base price, the guest will see a disclaimer before booking that the remaining balance cannot be carried over.

Important: Only one coupon can be used per reservation, even if multiple coupons are applied to a listing.

Limitations to Know

  • Only one coupon can be used per reservation.

  • The check-in date must fall within the specified date range. The coupon cannot be used on the last date of that range.

  • If a reservation includes any excluded day or date you've set, the coupon can't be used.

  • Coupons can only be applied to manual and direct integration reservations. Coupons configured in Guesty can also be used with Booking Engine API bookings.

  • Percentage-off coupons can discount up to 100% of the accommodation fare.

Discount Codes and Payments Are Managed in Guesty

Everything related to coupons and payments lives entirely within your Guesty account — not in CraftedStays. Here's how the responsibilities are split:

CraftedStays

Displays the coupon field to guests during the booking flow on your direct booking site

Guesty

Creates and manages coupons, validates codes at checkout, calculates and applies discounts, and processes guest payments

If a guest has trouble with a coupon code — or if you need to edit, deactivate, or delete a coupon — all of that is handled from your Guesty dashboard under Growth mode > Revenue management > Coupons. CraftedStays does not have the ability to create, modify, or troubleshoot coupons on your behalf.

Managing Existing Coupons

Editing a coupon: You can only update the coupon's Availability and Select listings sections. To change the name, code, usage limit, or discount amount, create a new coupon and delete or deactivate the old one. When updating a coupon with a past start date, change the start date to today or a future date first before making other changes.

Deactivating a coupon: Toggle off the coupon in the dashboard. Its status will change to "Not active" and guests won't be able to book with it — but existing reservations booked with it will still be honored.

Reactivating a coupon: Toggle the coupon back on. If the status is "Expired", update the availability settings (stay date range or last booking date) before reactivating. Note: you won't be able to update the coupon's name, code, or discount amount when reactivating.

Deleting a coupon: Click the vertical ellipsis at the right end of the row and select Delete coupon. Deleting a coupon is permanent and cannot be reversed. Existing reservations booked with the coupon will still be honored.

Tips

  • Use distinct codes per campaign (e.g., RETURN20 for past guests, SUMMER15 for seasonal promos) to track performance.

  • If sharing a code publicly, set a usage limit to control your discount exposure.

  • Use the "last booking date" field to create urgency — set a near-term cutoff even if the stay dates extend further out.

  • Use only letters and numbers in coupon codes if your guests will be booking through the Booking Engine API.
