Overview

By default, CraftedStays automatically generates SEO meta tags for each of your property pages using your property's title, description, and main image. These meta tags control how your pages appear in Google search results, and when shared on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

With the new SEO Meta Overrides feature, you can now customize these values on a per-property basis — giving you full control over how each listing is presented to search engines and social platforms.

What are meta tags?

Meta tags are hidden pieces of information on your page that tell search engines and social media platforms:

  • Meta Title — The clickable headline shown in search results

  • Meta Description — The short summary text below the headline in search results

  • Meta Image — The preview image shown when your page is shared on social media (also known as the Open Graph image)

How to set custom meta tags

  1. Navigate to your Properties list in the admin dashboard

  2. Click Edit on the property you want to customize

  3. Scroll down to the SEO Meta Overrides section

  4. Fill in any or all of the following fields:

    • Meta Title (max 70 characters) — A concise, keyword-rich title for search results. The placeholder shows what will be used if left empty.

    • Meta Description (max 160 characters) — A compelling summary that encourages clicks from search results. The placeholder shows the auto-generated value.

    • Meta Image — Upload an image optimized for social sharing. If left empty, your property's main image will be used.

  5. Click Update to save your changes

What happens if I leave the fields empty?

Nothing changes! The system will continue using your existing property data:

Field

Default (when empty)

Meta Title

Your property title (with location and sleeps info appended)

Meta Description

The first 160 characters of your property short description

Meta Image

Your property's main/featured image

You only need to fill in the fields you want to override.

Best practices

  • Meta Title: Keep it under 60-70 characters. Include your most important keywords (e.g., location, property type). Make it descriptive and unique for each property.

  • Meta Description: Use all 150-160 characters. Write a compelling call-to-action. Mention key selling points like location, amenities, or guest capacity.

  • Meta Image: Use a high-quality, landscape-oriented image (recommended minimum 1200x630px). The image will be automatically resized and optimized for social sharing.

Tips

  • Changes take effect immediately after saving — no need to republish

  • You can always remove a custom override by clearing the field and saving, which reverts to the auto-generated default

  • Use Google's Rich Results Test or social media debugger tools (Facebook Sharing Debugger, Twitter Card Validator) to preview how your pages will appear after customization
